On Saturday, May 16, the Briar campus opens its grounds for a morning that isn’t really about us — it’s about Middlefield. Twenty-three local vendors. Flowers, coffee, fresh bread, honey, handmade goods. No pitch, no pressure. Just a reason to gather.

Bloom & Browse is part of Briar’s quarterly community engagement series — a tradition that has previously included a spring cookout, fall festival, and holiday tree lighting. But this one carries a quieter intention, rooted in the belief that the best communities aren’t built in isolation. They’re built when people have a reason to gather.

“This started as a small idea and grew into something much bigger than we expected. We have 23 confirmed vendors — local growers, bakers, artisans, small businesses — and the response tells us something important about Middlefield. People want to show up for each other. They want to connect. That’s exactly the kind of community we’re building here.” — Kristin Wallace, Senior Living Advisor at Briar

What to expect

Visitors will find a curated mix of local vendors — Middlefield Seed with potted flowers, Fishers Nursery with bird feeders and garden goods, New Mercies Brew serving specialty coffee and lattes, Bubbly B’s Dirty Soda with cold refreshers, The Rolling Pin with cakes and cookies, Kaballo’s Mexican food truck, Homestead Haven with fresh honey, Mama Braun Acres with goat milk soaps and lotions, Purely Sonny with grass-fed skincare, and Crunchy Adventures with fresh-milled baked goods. Alongside them: artisan breads, sourdough, painted flower pots, crocheted goods, and complimentary chair massages — among many others.

Vendors bring their own tables and canopies, keeping the morning simple and the focus where it belongs — on the people.

More than a market

For Briar, the event reflects a broader philosophy. Ohman Family Living — which has served Geauga County since 1965 — sees its campus not as a destination for care, but as a place where a certain kind of life takes root. One where neighbors know each other’s names. Where a Saturday morning spent browsing flowers and sharing a cup of coffee with someone new isn’t a small thing — it’s the whole point.

Bloom & Browse is set on the grounds of The Cottages at Briar, our newest independent living neighborhood. Cottage tours will be available throughout the morning for anyone curious about what maintenance-free living in a connected community looks like.

“We’re not asking anyone to make a decision about their future on a Saturday morning. We’re asking them to come have a good morning. The rest takes care of itself.” — Kristin Wallace
